Carabao Cup Round One review
Round One of the 2019/20 Carabao Cup kicked off in style with Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth recording a 3-0 victory over Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City at Fratton Park.
Two goals from new summer signing Ellis Harrison and a sweet volley from Ben Close put Pompey through to Round Two, the shocks did not stop there though as one of the biggest shocks of the round came at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Recently relegated from the Premier League, Huddersfield Town went down 1-0 to a hard working Lincoln City side. The Imps had already won two out of two in Sky Bet League One without conceding a goal, an impressive start to the season for Nicky Cowley’s side.
It was an all-League One affair between two fierce rivals in the Southern section in Round One, as Milton Keynes Dons travelled to AFC Wimbledon. A penalty shoot-out had to separate the two sides in the end, with MK Dons sealing the bragging rights for now.
The Northern section continued to throw out surprises with two Sky Bet League Two sides hitting the road to face two Sky Bet Championship sides. Carlisle were 3-0 winners over Barnsley at Oakwell, while Crewe Alexandra got the better of Middlesbrough at the Riverside.
