On the back of an action packed weekend, we look back at the three star performers from an African perspective (excluding the English Premier League).

With football well and truly back this coming weekend, our focus lies on the French Ligue 1 and Dutch Eredivisie – with special mention to the Belgium Pro League.

Victor Osimhen

Life after Nicolas Pepe started with a bang for LOSC Lille with a brace from Osimhen leading the club to a 2-1 win over Nantes. The Nigerian forward had a debut to remember, as the club claimed all three points in the opening round of the Ligue 1 season.

Hakim Ziyech

The Morocco international followed his contract extension at Ajax Amsterdam with a goal in a 5-0 win over FC Emmen this past weekend. Ziyech will be hoping for another big season in the Netherlands, as he continues to eye a move elsewhere.

Lars Veldwijk

The South African forward scored for the second game running as Sparta Rotterdam claimed a second win in as many games, on their return to the Dutch Eredivisie. Fellow countryman Percy Tau also netted his second in as many games, scoring for Club Brugge in their victory over KV Oostende in Belgium.
