Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named as Arsenal’s new club captain.
The 30-year-old takes over the armband from Grant Xhaka on a permanent basis, following the midfielder’s outburst during the club’s 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace late last month.
Aubameyang found the back of the net in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at home to Wolves past weekend while donning the armband, but will not feature for the Gunners in their Europa League match away to Vitoria on Thursday evening.
Hector Bellerin is likely to take over the armband in Aubameyang’s absence.
Aubameyang has scored nine goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this season. His goal against Wolves on Saturday was his 50th for the club in just 78 appearances since his move from Borussia Dortmund.
